Overview
ISO 22000 sets the requirements for a food safety management system (FSMS) for any organisation in the food chain, from primary production and processing to packaging, storage and transport. The current edition is ISO 22000:2018.
It combines prerequisite programmes (hygiene, premises, pest control, water, cleaning), a HACCP plan for identifying and controlling hazards, and the management system elements shared by other ISO standards.
Who needs it
- Food processors and manufacturers supplying brands, retailers and exporters.
- Packaging makers whose materials touch food.
- Storage, logistics and catering businesses.
Process
- Gap analysis against ISO 22000 and your FSSAI licence conditions.
- Prerequisite programmes for premises, hygiene and suppliers.
- Hazard analysis and HACCP plan, with critical limits and monitoring.
- Traceability, recall and verification procedures.
- Training, internal audit and management review.
- Certification audit in two stages by an accredited certification body.
