Battery & Cell Testing
NABL-accredited safety and performance testing of lithium-ion, nickel and lead-acid cells and batteries: portable, EV traction, telecom, solar, stationary and automotive.
Battery testing covers two different questions: is the cell or pack safe, and does it perform as rated. Safety tests include external short circuit, overcharge, forced discharge, crush, impact, drop, vibration, thermal abuse and propagation. Performance tests cover rated capacity, cycle life, charge retention, internal resistance and high-rate discharge.
Accredited tests cover IS 16046 for portable cells, IS 16893 for EV cells, AIS 038 and AIS 156 for electric power trains, UN 38.3 for transport, the IS 1651, IS 15549 and IS 13369 family for stationary lead-acid batteries, and IEC, UL and TEC standards.

Frequently asked questions
Do you test lithium batteries for UN 38.3?
Yes. Altitude simulation, thermal, vibration, shock, external short circuit, impact, overcharge and forced discharge tests to UN 38.3 are within the accredited scope.
Is IS 16046 testing available?
Yes. Safety tests to IS 16046 (IEC 62133) for both lithium and nickel systems are NABL accredited. For CRS registration the report must come from a BIS-recognised laboratory for IS 16046, and we will tell you which one applies to your product.
Can you test EV battery cells and packs?
Yes. Performance and reliability tests to IS 16893 (IEC 62660), and safety requirements under AIS 038 and AIS 156 for electric power trains, are in scope.
How many samples are needed?
It depends on the standard and whether you are testing cells, packs or both. IS 16046, for example, needs several cells and batteries for the different tests. We send a sample list once we know the chemistry, capacity and configuration.
