Overview
ISO 45001 sets the requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system. It asks an organisation to identify hazards, assess and control risks, consult and involve workers, meet its legal obligations and keep improving. ISO 45001:2018 replaced the older OHSAS 18001.
For Indian plants, the legal register usually draws on the Factories Act and state factory rules, the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, electrical safety rules and fire safety requirements.
Who needs it
- Manufacturing and engineering plants with machinery, electrical, chemical or fire hazards.
- Contractors working on customer sites where OH&S certification is a condition.
- Exporters to buyers who audit supplier safety.
Process
- Initial review of sites, activities and incident history.
- Hazard identification and risk assessment, with controls ranked by the hierarchy of controls.
- Legal register and compliance evaluation.
- Procedures for operational control, contractors, emergencies and incident investigation.
- Training, worker consultation, internal audit and management review.
- Certification audit in two stages by an accredited certification body.
How Aaditech helps
Our engineers understand electrical and engineering plants in detail, so hazard registers and controls reflect real risks rather than templates. We often run ISO 45001 as one integrated system with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
