  • NABCB-accredited Type A inspection body, certificate IB 024
  • Stage-wise and final inspection of electrical equipment
  • Inspectors with BIS and regulatory backgrounds
  • Independent of manufacturer, supplier and buyer

Authority: NABCB-accredited (ISO/IEC 17020) for electrical equipment

Overview

Third party inspection (TPI) is an independent check that goods, equipment or an installation meet what was agreed: the relevant standard, the purchase specification, the approved drawings and the quality assurance plan. The inspector works for neither the seller nor, in the commercial sense, the buyer. Their job is to give both sides a factual record they can rely on.

Aaditech Inspections & Services has carried out third party inspection since 2012. We are accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB) as a Type A inspection body under ISO/IEC 17020:2012, certificate IB 024, valid to 03 March 2030. Type A is the strictest independence category in the standard. It means we have no design, manufacturing, supply or maintenance interest in anything we inspect.

If you are looking for a quick summary of how to appoint us for a specific order, see our third party inspection agency page. This page explains the service in more depth.

Note: Our NABCB accreditation covers electrical equipment only (IAF scope 19). We also inspect other products, such as steel, building materials and mechanical items, on request. Those inspections sit outside our accredited scope, and our reports state this.

What we inspect

Within our accredited scope, we carry out stage-wise and final inspection of:

Product familyTypical inspection points
Wires, cables and conductorsConstruction, dimensions, conductor resistance, insulation thickness, marking, routine and acceptance tests
Energy metersAccuracy checks, sealing, marking, acceptance tests per the purchase specification
TransformersRoutine tests witnessed at works, ratio, losses, insulation resistance, oil quality
Switchgear and controlgearAssembly checks, functional and dielectric tests, wiring and labelling
Lamps, LEDs and ballastsPhotometric and electrical parameters, marking, safety checks
IS 302 household appliancesSafety-related construction and routine tests
Capacitors and AC motorsElectrical performance, routine tests, nameplate data
Insulators, insulating oils and matsVisual and dimensional checks, electrical tests, sampling
Wiring accessoriesConstruction, marking, mechanical and electrical checks

Who it’s for

  • Utilities, public sector undertakings and EPC contractors who need independent inspection before accepting material against a contract.
  • Manufacturers whose customers or tender terms require inspection by an accredited third party.
  • Importers and traders who want assurance on goods before they are shipped or released.
  • Facility owners checking that distribution equipment has been installed and maintained correctly.

Our process

  1. Scope and contract review. We study the purchase order, technical specification, applicable Indian or international standards and the approved quality plan, and confirm the inspection is within our competence and accreditation.
  2. Inspection plan. We agree hold and witness points, sampling, test methods and acceptance criteria with the client before work starts.
  3. Stage-wise inspection. Where required, our inspector visits at agreed stages, such as raw material, in-process and routine testing, so defects are caught before they are built into the finished product.
  4. Final inspection. We draw samples from the finished lot, witness tests, check calibration of the test equipment used and verify marking, packing and documents.
  5. Reporting. We issue an inspection report and, where applicable, an inspection certificate that records what was checked, the results and any non-conformities.
  6. Follow-up. If a lot is rejected or held, we can re-inspect after the manufacturer has taken corrective action.

Standards & references

  • ISO/IEC 17020:2012: requirements for the operation of bodies performing inspection, including impartiality, independence and competence.
  • NABCB accreditation for inspection bodies, operated under the Quality Council of India.
  • The Indian Standards (IS) and IEC standards named in each purchase specification, together with the customer’s own technical specification and quality assurance plan.

Why Aaditech

  • Regulatory background. Aaditech was promoted by former Directors of the Bureau of Indian Standards. Our CEO, Mr B.K. Jain, headed the BIS electrical laboratory and later served as Joint Director at the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission.
  • Type A independence. We have no stake in the products we inspect, which matters when a decision to accept or reject a lot carries real cost.
  • Electrical depth. Our accredited scope is electrical equipment, which is also where our team’s experience is strongest.
  • Recognised elsewhere. NTPC has approved us as a third-party agency for authenticating tender documents, and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency appointed us as an Independent Agency for Monitoring & Evaluation (IAME) of star-rated products in 2021.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Type A inspection body?

ISO/IEC 17020 defines Type A bodies as fully independent of the parties involved. A Type A body does not design, make, supply, install, use or maintain the items it inspects, so it has no commercial stake in the outcome.

Which products does your accreditation cover?

Our NABCB accreditation (IB 024) covers electrical equipment: wires and cables, conductors, energy meters, transformers, switchgear and controlgear, lamps, LEDs and ballasts, IS 302 appliances, capacitors, AC motors, insulators and insulating oils, insulating mats, wiring accessories, and the installation and maintenance of distribution apparatus.

Can you inspect products outside electrical equipment?

Yes, on request, for items such as steel, building materials and mechanical goods. These inspections fall outside our NABCB-accredited scope, and our reports say so clearly.

What is the difference between stage-wise and final inspection?

Stage-wise inspection checks the product at agreed points during manufacture, such as raw material, in-process and routine tests. Final inspection is carried out on the finished lot before it is accepted or dispatched.

Who appoints the inspection agency, the buyer or the manufacturer?

Either can. Buyers often appoint us to protect their purchase, while manufacturers engage us when a tender or customer asks for independent third-party inspection.

How long is your accreditation valid?

Our ISO/IEC 17020:2012 accreditation, certificate IB 024, is valid until 03 March 2030, subject to NABCB's ongoing surveillance.
