Overview
ISO 50001 sets the requirements for an energy management system (EnMS). It asks an organisation to understand where its energy goes, set a baseline and energy performance indicators, plan improvements and prove that energy performance is getting better. The current edition is ISO 50001:2018.
For Indian industry, ISO 50001 fits naturally with the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, energy audits and the Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme run by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

- Energy-intensive manufacturers, including PAT designated consumers.
- Large commercial buildings and campuses.
